40 hours/week, 52 paid weeks. Take-home: single filer, 2026 federal brackets + FICA, no state income tax, no 401(k).

Reading the table

Gross per year is the wage times 2,080 working hours.Take-home removes federal income tax and the 7.65% employee share of Social Security and Medicare — but not state income tax, which most states also charge. The effective rate is total tax as a share of gross; it rises with income because the federal brackets are progressive. Frequently asked questions

How is the yearly figure calculated?
Hourly rate × 40 hours × 52 weeks. The take-home column subtracts 2026 federal income tax and FICA for a single filer with no 401(k) and no state income tax. Add state tax on top for most states.
Why 52 weeks and not fewer?
52 assumes you are paid for the whole year, including any paid leave. If you take unpaid weeks off, use 50 or 48 — each unpaid week removes 40 hours of pay.
Is the take-home figure what I will actually get?
It is close for a single filer in a no-income-tax state. Elsewhere, subtract state income tax. A 401(k) contribution lowers taxable income (and take-home) further. Use the per-rate page or the main calculator for your exact situation.
